We studied a series of works by Hogarth on cruelty. The series consisted of four paintings or etchings entitled "First stage of cruelty", "Second stage of cruelty", "Cruelty in perfection" and "The reward of cruelty".

Each group studied one of those works (step 1 and 2). Every member of each group had then to write two paragraphs (homework) on the topic of the picture (step 3) and on his feelings about the picture (step 4).
